The Numbers Up Front
Default Portion: 3 oz / 84 g (roughly 15–17 fries, one bag's suggested serving)
✂️ Trim Trim Trim
Nothing to cut here — the "trim" already happened at the factory. Oven/air-fryer-style frozen fries are par-cooked with a fraction of the oil a true deep-fried fry absorbs. That's the whole reason this recipe works: same potato, completely different calorie math, before you even turn on your own kitchen.
Ingredients
Use-what-you’ve-got friendly.
Sorted by dish, with the spices you probably already own kept separate.
- ◆Store-brand oven/air-fryer-ready frozen fries (any brand — whatever's on sale)
- ◆0-cal cooking oil spray
- ◆Seasoning of choice — Cajun, blackening, garlic-parm, or plain salt
Instructions
- 1
Spread fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- 2
Light spray of 0-cal oil.
- 3
Air fry 400°F, 10–14 min, shaking the basket halfway, until crisp.
- 4
Season immediately while hot, straight out of the basket — the heat helps it stick.
🧠 Why This Works
The air fryer's whole trick is convection — hot air moving fast enough to crisp the exterior starch the same way oil would, without the oil doing the work. Since the fries are already par-cooked with minimal fat, you're finishing a mostly-done product, not frying raw potato from scratch.
🌶️ Flavor Boosters
Cajun or blackening seasoning • garlic powder + parmesan • smoked paprika + a pinch of cayenne • malt vinegar spray for the classic pub taste
🔄 Use What You’ve Got
- —Any brand of oven-ready frozen fries works — check the label, most run 100–130 cal per 3 oz serving
- —No air fryer? Oven works too, just won't get quite as crisp — 425°F, 18–20 min, flip halfway
- —Sweet potato fries instead? Similar method, slightly different macros — check that label too
📦 Meal Prep Notes
Best fresh — fries don't reheat as crisp as they cook the first time • If you must reheat, air fryer beats microwave every time, 350°F, 3–4 min
