Honey Garlic Chicken Rice Bowl

Sticky, garlicky, charred — the takeout glaze without the sugar crash.

Honey Garlic Chicken Rice Bowl

Weeknight Lore

Charred cubes of chicken in a sticky honey-garlic glaze over rice with roasted broccoli — the fast-casual bowl everybody loves, rebuilt so the glaze leans on a sugar-free sweetener and the rice sits at the bowl standard. (Built fresh for LCHP to match the hero photo — lean from the ground up.)

The Numbers Up Front

Total Cooked Yield: ~6 oz / 170 g cooked chicken + bowl components

Default Portion: 1 bowl — 6 oz / 170 g chicken on the bowl standard

✂️ Trim Trim Trim

Nothing to trim on the chicken breast. The lever is the glaze — takeout honey-garlic is mostly sugar, so a sugar-free honey (or a single teaspoon of real honey) with soy, garlic, and a pinch of cornstarch gives the same sticky shine for a fraction of the calories. Rice at 2 oz, chicken seared in a sprayed pan.

Ingredients

Use-what-you’ve-got friendly.

Sorted by dish, with the spices you probably already own kept separate.

Chicken + Glaze

  • 6 oz / 170 g chicken breast, cut into bite-size cubes
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce • 1 tbsp sugar-free honey • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar • ½ tsp cornstarch • 0-cal oil spray • salt & pepper

The Bowl

  • 2 oz / 57 g cooked rice (any rice; cauliflower rice to drop carbs)
  • 1½ cups broccoli florets
  • Sesame seeds + sliced green onion

Instructions

  1. 1

Whisk soy sauce, sugar-free honey, garlic, rice vinegar, and cornstarch with 2 tbsp water — that's the glaze.

  2. 2

Season chicken cubes with salt and pepper. Sear in a sprayed hot skillet, 6–8 min, until browned and cooked through.

  3. 3

Roast or steam-sear the broccoli until crisp-tender and lightly charred.

  4. 4

Pour the glaze over the chicken and toss 1–2 min until it thickens and coats every piece.

  5. 5

Build: rice → glazed chicken and broccoli → sesame seeds and green onion.

🧠 Why This Works

The honey-garlic bowl feels virtuous but hides its calories in a sugary glaze and a big scoop of rice. A sugar-free sweetener holds the sticky, glossy finish while cutting the sugar; searing with a spray keeps the fat low; and holding the rice to 2 oz leaves room for a full 6 oz of chicken. Charred broccoli fills the bowl for almost nothing.

🌶️ Flavor Boosters

Sriracha or chili crisp • fresh ginger • red pepper flakes • a few drops of sesame oil • extra garlic

🔄 Use What You’ve Got

  • Chicken → shrimp, salmon, or tofu all take the glaze
  • No sugar-free honey? 1 tsp real honey, macros barely move
  • Broccoli → green beans, snap peas, or bok choy
  • Cauliflower rice for the lowest carbs; any rice you've got works

📦 Meal Prep Notes

Store chicken, broccoli, and rice together up to 3–4 days • Reheats juicy in a covered dish or a hot pan • Add sesame and green onion fresh
