Teriyaki Salmon Rice Bowl
Takeout teriyaki, minus the sugar crash and the delivery fee.

Takeout-Reboot Lore
Sticky-sweet teriyaki salmon over rice with something green — the takeout order you actually crave, rebuilt so the sauce is a glaze instead of a sugar bath. Marinate it overnight and dinner is twelve minutes after you walk in. (Adapted from your 18 Seafood Weeknight Meals list — R5.)

The Numbers Up Front
Total Cooked Yield: ~9.5 oz / 270 g salmon + bowl components
Default Portion: 1 bowl — 4 oz / 113 g salmon on the bowl standard
✂️ Trim Trim Trim
Nothing to trim on the fish. The lever is the sauce: restaurant teriyaki is loaded with sugar and oil, so a homemade glaze of soy, a single tablespoon of honey, garlic, and ginger gets the sticky-sweet lacquer for a fraction of the sugar. Cauliflower or Carbe Diem rice keeps the base light.
Ingredients
Use-what-you’ve-got friendly.
Sorted by dish, with the spices you probably already own kept separate.
Salmon + Teriyaki
- ◆2 salmon fillets (6 oz / 170 g each)
- ◆2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce (or coconut aminos)
- ◆1 tbsp honey or sugar-free maple syrup
- ◆1 tsp garlic powder • ½ tsp ground ginger • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
The Bowl
- ◆1 cup Carbe Diem rice or cauliflower rice, cooked
- ◆1 cup frozen broccoli florets or edamame, microwaved
- ◆Sesame seeds + sliced green onion (optional garnish)
Instructions
- 1
Whisk soy sauce, honey, garlic powder, ginger, and sesame oil — that's your teriyaki.
- 2
Put the salmon in a zip bag or shallow bowl, pour half the sauce over it, and marinate 5–10 min (or overnight for best flavor).
- 3
Preheat air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
- 4
Air-fry the salmon 10–12 min, brushing with the remaining sauce at the 6-minute mark.
- 5
Meanwhile, microwave the rice per package and the broccoli/edamame for 3 min.
- 6
Build: rice → greens → flaked salmon → drizzle any leftover sauce.
- 7
Garnish with sesame seeds and green onion. Serve immediately.
🧠 Why This Works
Splitting the sauce — half to marinate, half to glaze at the end — means you get flavor all the way through and a fresh sticky lacquer that isn't cooked to bitterness. A single tablespoon of honey is enough to caramelize and read as "teriyaki," so you skip the flood of sugar takeout versions rely on, and a cauliflower or Carbe Diem rice base keeps the carbs in check.
🌶️ Flavor Boosters
Sriracha or chili crisp • extra fresh ginger • a soft-boiled egg • pickled ginger • a handful of shelled edamame for more protein
🔄 Use What You’ve Got
- —Chicken thighs sub for salmon perfectly
- —No soy sauce? 1.5 tbsp Worcestershire + 1 tsp water
- —Cauliflower rice for the lowest carbs; Carbe Diem rice for more chew and fiber
📦 Meal Prep Notes
Prep ahead, cook fresh. Rice and vegetables keep 3 days • Teriyaki sauce keeps a week refrigerated • Marinate the raw salmon overnight so a weeknight bowl is just 12 minutes of air-frying • ⚠️ The salmon is the one thing that doesn't wait. Cook it the night you eat it — a reheated fillet is dry, rubbery, and a crime against whoever sits near you at lunch.
