Weeknight Lore
The recipe that proves seafood belongs on a Tuesday. Pat it dry, hit it with garlic and lemon, and let the air fryer do fifteen minutes of unsupervised work while you change out of your work clothes. (Adapted from your 18 Seafood Weeknight Meals list — R1.)

The Numbers Up Front
Total Cooked Yield: ~9.5 oz / 270 g (two 6 oz raw fillets)
Default Portion: 6 oz / 170 g cooked
✂️ Trim Trim Trim
Salmon brings its own healthy fat, so there's nothing to trim off the fish — the only lever is the oil you add. The recipe calls for 2 tbsp; most of it never absorbs, so a light brush of 1 tbsp across both fillets gets the same glossy finish and saves ~120 calories versus pouring the whole amount on.
Ingredients
Use-what-you’ve-got friendly.
Sorted by dish, with the spices you probably already own kept separate.
- ◆2 salmon fillets (6 oz / 170 g each)
- ◆1–2 tbsp olive oil
- ◆3 garlic cloves, minced • 1 lemon (zested and juiced)
- ◆1 tsp garlic powder • ½ tsp onion powder • ½ tsp paprika
- ◆Salt + black pepper • parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- 1
Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
- 2
Pat the salmon completely dry — this is what gives you a crisp exterior instead of a steamed one. Not optional.
- 3
Whisk oil, minced garlic, lemon zest and juice, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- 4
Brush the mixture generously over both sides of each fillet.
- 5
Place salmon skin-side down in the basket, no overlapping.
- 6
Air-fry 400°F, 10–12 min, until it hits 145°F (63°C) and the top is lightly golden.
- 7
Garnish with parsley and an extra squeeze of lemon. Serve immediately.
🧠 Why This Works
Drying the fish is the whole trick — surface moisture turns to steam and steamed fish never browns. A dry fillet in the air fryer's convection heat crisps the outside while the inside stays just-set and moist, and the acid from the lemon keeps the rich salmon from feeling heavy.
🌶️ Flavor Boosters
Extra lemon zest • fresh dill • a pinch of red pepper flakes • a whisper of smoked paprika
🔄 Use What You’ve Got
- —No fresh lemon? 1 tbsp white wine vinegar + a pinch of sugar
- —Tilapia or cod work with the exact same marinade and timing (check doneness a couple minutes earlier — they're leaner)
- —No air fryer? 425°F oven, 12–15 min
📦 Meal Prep Notes
Refrigerate up to 3 days • Reheat gently in the air fryer, 350°F, 3 min • Marinate up to 30 min ahead in the fridge for deeper flavor, no extra active time • Flakes beautifully cold over a salad the next day
